Dear Minister Mikkonen,
As Social Democrats, we want to pursue policies to meet the needs of all, within the means of the planet. Meeting this challenge to thrive while saving the planet will demand great transformations in the way we live, produce and consume. The transformation will therefore affect many aspects of life and requires an approach that addresses economic, environmental and social challenges at the same time. A just transition, taking social considerations in climate action into account, is not to water down ambition, but to enable ambition. It is necessary to not let people fall for those who deny climate change but giving perspectives for everyone in a climateneutral future. The United Nations 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals are the perfect compass to do so. Hundred thousands of young people in the Fridays for Future protests understand the climate situation as what it is: A climate crisis. They rightly demand us to not only commit by words but by action. So, Europe has to take the next steps in taking concrete measures:
In the absence of an overarching EU Sustainable Development Strategy, how is the Finish Presidency intending to better reflect the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the policy-making of the EU and its Member States, for example through the European Semester?
