Voices of Human Rights Defenders in Iran
Film Screening ‚White Torture‘ and Discussion
26 June, 19:00 Cinéma Aventure, Brussels
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the event „Voices of Human Rights Defenders in Iran – Film Screening ‚White Torture‘ and Discussion“ co-hosted by MEPs Delara Burkhardt (S&D) and Hannah Neumann (The Greens/EFA).
Our aim is to amplify the voices of Iranians, particularly women, who are courageously fighting for their human rights against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Through the screening of „White Torture,“ a documentary directed by imprisoned human rights defender Narges Mohammadi, currently detained in Evin prison, we seek to shed light on the cruel use of solitary confinement as a tool for political prisoner torture in Iran. Based on Narges Mohammadi’s book of the same title, the film „White Torture“ provides an insight into the harrowing experiences of solitary confinement inside Iranian prisons.
Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion on the situation of human rights defenders, with the presence of:
- Düzen Tekkal, Founder & CEO, Hawar Help,
- Rezvaneh Mohammadi, Journalist, LGBTQI* Rights Activist
- Kersty McCourt, Head of Global Advocacy, Front Line Defenders
- Taghi Rahmani, Human Rights Activist, husband of Narges Mohammadi
